All About IFRA

We have IFRA on all fragrance oils and flavor oils on our website.

What do the maximum levels mean? Let's use Almond Paradise as an example. The IFRA guidelines on this state that there are no restrictions for soaps, shampoos, lotions, etc. So does that mean you can use 100% in your product? No. That would mean your product consists of straight fragrance oil.

The IFRA states the *max* that can be used, not the recommended amount. It is the responsibility of the maker to do their research to see what the recommended usage rate of fragrance oil for their particular recipe is.

For soap, as a general rule of thumb you will use up to 5% of fragrance oil in Cold Process (CP) soap and up to 3% in Melt and Pour (M&P) soap.

So, if you see a fragrance oil and the IFRA says 23% for soap, don't use 23%. IFRA is important when it comes to lower numbers. There are a few fragrance oils that have max usage rates that are less than the percentages shown above. In that case, you can only use the max shown for the oil.

"I've used many many fragr..."
COMMENTS:  I've used many many fragrance oils from RE, and I feel compelled to write about how amazing this oil is! (I don't know the Aquolina type) It's so delicious but not in an "I want to eat it" way. It's more sophisticated and feminine. I detect cotton candy notes, but there's so much more. It's a little fruity, with subtle notes of citrus, and fresh powder. I can't stop smelling it! It sells like mad in candles and melts. I only got into bath & body, and this is THE 1st fragrance oil I wanted to use. (and I have so many) The body sprays have sold out. I made and used a whipped sugar scrub with this today, and I can still smell it on my skin, but only if I put my nose close. It's definitely NOT too sweet to me and my customers. (Too sweet makes me sick) I can't wait to make other bath & body products with this! Please don't ever stop selling this yummy but sensual oil! (My husband loves this on me as well)

"I've tried a few differen..."
COMMENTS:  I've tried a few different versions of the "pink sugar type" fragrance and so far none of them are just what I want. This one didn't give me any trouble in cold process soap (the note says mauve discoloration but about 4 weeks after I made my soap the white portion is still white). However, the fragrance was very mild in my soap in comparison to other fragrance oils at the same percent of use. It might be just right if I double the amount. Others I've tried smell better, but those have given me very strong brown discoloration.

"This sure is a bright, sw..."
COMMENTS:  This sure is a bright, sweet fragrance. The younger crowd loves this one! I do not know if it compares to Aquolina, as I have never had the chance to smell this, but it smells sweet and delicious. Advantages: very sweet and looks good with a pink gel color ... caters to the younger crowd between 15 to 25 Disadvantages: if you do not like real heavy sweet fragrances then this is not for you, but everyone has their opinions on smells

"I've never smelled pink s..."
COMMENTS:  I've never smelled pink sugar before to compare, so I bought this to see what the popularity of it was. The only notes I can smell is cotton candy, musk & a light hint of vanilla. Advantages: Made soy wax melts; Hot/cold throw is great Disadvantages: That I couldn't compare this FO to another brand
