All About IFRA

We have IFRA on all fragrance oils and flavor oils on our website.

What do the maximum levels mean? Let's use Almond Paradise as an example. The IFRA guidelines on this state that there are no restrictions for soaps, shampoos, lotions, etc. So does that mean you can use 100% in your product? No. That would mean your product consists of straight fragrance oil.

The IFRA states the *max* that can be used, not the recommended amount. It is the responsibility of the maker to do their research to see what the recommended usage rate of fragrance oil for their particular recipe is.

For soap, as a general rule of thumb you will use up to 5% of fragrance oil in Cold Process (CP) soap and up to 3% in Melt and Pour (M&P) soap.

So, if you see a fragrance oil and the IFRA says 23% for soap, don't use 23%. IFRA is important when it comes to lower numbers. There are a few fragrance oils that have max usage rates that are less than the percentages shown above. In that case, you can only use the max shown for the oil.

"This is cinnamon candy in..."
COMMENTS:  This is cinnamon candy infused lightly with smoke. I used it in a small batch of melts for testing and it’s a hard no for me. I’m sure plenty of people would love it which is why I have it 4 stars. I smell some of the scent notes listed but I’m not getting any cedar just the cinnamon a slight sweetness and smoke. I want to love all the fo’s from RE but this one just didn’t do it for me. Maybe it needs to cure longer, but I’m not smelling very much complexity in this one. Advantages: It’s different. Disadvantages: I’m not a fan of the scent. Cinnamon and smoke is all I’m getting.

"This is an amazing spicy ..."
COMMENTS:  This is an amazing spicy smoky fragrance. In the same family as Bonfire and Hipster. Actually gains complexity after a four week cure. Used it for Halloween soap. Advantages: No acceleration in CP. Made a very nice ITP swirl. Disadvantages: None.

"This fragrance is amazing..."
COMMENTS:  This fragrance is amazing! All the little details are easily detected and complement one another beautifully. I was absolutely shocked by just how unique and wonderful this scent is. I want to put it in everything. Not just for men's products, I think women will love this as well. It's spicy but not cloying. The 'gray smoke' adds a softening and mysterious touch to the blend. Perfect! Advantages: all Disadvantages: none
