Additional Information
Merlot is a dark blue-colored wine grape variety that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. Its softness and "fleshiness," combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot is one of the primary grapes used in Bordeaux wine, and it is the most widely planted grape in the Bordeaux wine regions. Merlot is also one of the most popular red wine varietals in many markets. And this is an amazing Merlot fragrance oil paying homage to its namesake! Sweet, fruit, and sophisticated. Plums, strawberries, and pears float above a light layer of fresh green leaf, gardenia and Neroli. Middle notes are anchored with a soft and delicate musk. No perfumey or overwhelming notes, the result is just fun! Will appeal to all ages, from children on up. Pair with cedar or woods to make a more mature, grown-up scent. A candle or tart melt made from this fragrance oil will have anyone who smells it licking their lips. Would make a great flirty summer lotion or body spray. A nice treat as a shower steamer any time of the year. Yummy!

All About IFRA

We have IFRA on all fragrance oils and flavor oils on our website.

What do the maximum levels mean? Let's use Almond Paradise as an example. The IFRA guidelines on this state that there are no restrictions for soaps, shampoos, lotions, etc. So does that mean you can use 100% in your product? No. That would mean your product consists of straight fragrance oil.

The IFRA states the *max* that can be used, not the recommended amount. It is the responsibility of the maker to do their research to see what the recommended usage rate of fragrance oil for their particular recipe is.

For soap, as a general rule of thumb you will use up to 5% of fragrance oil in Cold Process (CP) soap and up to 3% in Melt and Pour (M&P) soap.

So, if you see a fragrance oil and the IFRA says 23% for soap, don't use 23%. IFRA is important when it comes to lower numbers. There are a few fragrance oils that have max usage rates that are less than the percentages shown above. In that case, you can only use the max shown for the oil.

I Recommend This Product!
"Wine! Wine! Wine!"
COMMENTS:  This defiantly smells like wine. When I first smelled it, you get that smell of grape but when you actually combine it with other flavors, it does help. This is 100% a wine smell but beware! It is very powerful. I barely put in any when I was making a candle and it really takes over the other fragrances.

"I got Merlot FO as a samp..."
COMMENTS:  I got Merlot FO as a sample with one of my orders, and tried it in CP soap. The scent is fantastic It smells like a rich grape juice. (Makes me happy because I don't like the smell of wine.) It behaved well, though it discolored to a dark khaki-green brown (which can be worked around). At only 3% ppo and with kaolin clay added, the scent lasted clear and strong over a year (when I used the last bar :)). I'll definitely be buying more! Advantages: Staying power in CP and behaves well no ricing or noticeable acceleration. Disadvantages: discolor to green-ish brown

"I cant keep this in stock..."
COMMENTS:  I cant keep this in stock, everytime I make it, it goes FAST. It smells fruity but deep like red wine, its the best! I make cold process soap and candles as a gift set. It behaves nicely, it does turn dark but I add just a touch of the stabilizer and some maroon mica and its a nice deep burgundy after cure and the scent STICKS well, nice strong and perfect! I'm back for more! Advantages: everything Disadvantages: nothing

"A beautiful scent! Althou..."
COMMENTS:  A beautiful scent! Although I do smell tart grape as a top note, I also get hints of dryer Merlot. My customers love it! Advantages: Beautiful scent. Strong CT and HT Disadvantages: Needs a bit more umph in the true Merlot department but, dont let that keep you from purchasing! It is lovely.

"This scent was wayyyy too..."
COMMENTS:  This scent was wayyyy too sweet for a Merlot. It smelled more like grape juice, and my customers said the same thing. I'd love this scent if it was "dryer", but again, it reminds me of white grape juice!
