All About IFRA

We have IFRA on all fragrance oils and flavor oils on our website.

What do the maximum levels mean? Let's use Almond Paradise as an example. The IFRA guidelines on this state that there are no restrictions for soaps, shampoos, lotions, etc. So does that mean you can use 100% in your product? No. That would mean your product consists of straight fragrance oil.

The IFRA states the *max* that can be used, not the recommended amount. It is the responsibility of the maker to do their research to see what the recommended usage rate of fragrance oil for their particular recipe is.

For soap, as a general rule of thumb you will use up to 5% of fragrance oil in Cold Process (CP) soap and up to 3% in Melt and Pour (M&P) soap.

So, if you see a fragrance oil and the IFRA says 23% for soap, don't use 23%. IFRA is important when it comes to lower numbers. There are a few fragrance oils that have max usage rates that are less than the percentages shown above. In that case, you can only use the max shown for the oil.

"Used to make Cold Process Soap"
COMMENTS:  I usually do not write a review, but I must say I just simply had to warn you. I used the Key Lime Pie Fragrance for a large Wholesale order thinking it had 0% Vanilla content and everything would be fine. I made all of the other soaps with the same exact ingredients, but used other fragrances. I had to scrap 51 soaps due to discoloring to a dirty light brown everywhere mixed in with the green lime color I had already created with Key Lime Pie fragrance. What a mess! What a waste of time on a deadline. This fragrance can not be used unless you are making a darker soap no matter the zero vanilla content.

"Bright, true scent. Smell..."
COMMENTS:  Bright, true scent. Smells precisely like a key lime pie, pastry and all. In CP soap, behaves beautifully with no issues. Stays true and strong, discoloring to a light tan after six weeks. An absolute keeper!

"AMAZING fragrance. I use..."
COMMENTS:  AMAZING fragrance. I use this in my soy wax tarts and the scent throw is HUGE. Has been a big hit in the last couple of weeks, so I ordered a bigger bottle Advantages: Smells exactly like Key Lime pie. Add a little whipped cream FO for a truly amazing scent. Disadvantages: None that I've found so far other than wishing it was bath and body safe.

"Smells delicious. I used ..."
COMMENTS:  Smells delicious. I used .8 oz PPO, and the scent stuck. I may use a tad more next time, but it's still a wonderful scent. I will purchase again.
