All About IFRA

We have IFRA on all fragrance oils and flavor oils on our website.

What do the maximum levels mean? Let's use Almond Paradise as an example. The IFRA guidelines on this state that there are no restrictions for soaps, shampoos, lotions, etc. So does that mean you can use 100% in your product? No. That would mean your product consists of straight fragrance oil.

The IFRA states the *max* that can be used, not the recommended amount. It is the responsibility of the maker to do their research to see what the recommended usage rate of fragrance oil for their particular recipe is.

For soap, as a general rule of thumb you will use up to 5% of fragrance oil in Cold Process (CP) soap and up to 3% in Melt and Pour (M&P) soap.

So, if you see a fragrance oil and the IFRA says 23% for soap, don't use 23%. IFRA is important when it comes to lower numbers. There are a few fragrance oils that have max usage rates that are less than the percentages shown above. In that case, you can only use the max shown for the oil.

"AMAZING"
COMMENTS:  This is one of my favorite scents! It stays strong in most everything I've used it for! I've not tried it in cold process, but in shower gels, bathbombs, shampoo bars and conditioner bars, candles, etc., it is wonderful.

"Fragrance doesn’t stick"
COMMENTS:  Don’t waste your money on this fragrance, it’s so light and is barely there after cure. Haven’t sold a bar at markets/shows.

"Smell is great"
COMMENTS:  I made a batch of cp soap using this fragrance oil, it smells amazing, no ricing, very little acceleration but nothing that can't be worked with. My only complaint is that it completely discolored my blue in my soap. Not sure about the orange yet because it's still in the mold, but my blue was completely white this morning when I checked on the batch which was kind if a bummer. Still will use again, but will have to change the title of my soap next time.

"So fresh with a slightly ..."
COMMENTS:  So fresh with a slightly minty floral. Sounds weird but I promise it’s fantastic! And I generally dislike florals. My nose detects a gardenia or maybe even a honeysuckle vibe with just a bit of mint. It works! Sounds weird but no, it’s fantastic! I used it in a small batch of parasoy melts at 1oz per lb and the throw was not over powering but nice. It’s worth trying a sample size! Advantages: Lovely, fresh, clean.

COMMENTS:  Behaves well in cold process soap. I did notice a slight bit of acceleration, but you'll be fine if you mix in batter by hand. No discoloration, or ricing and it smells Amazeballs!!!

"Love this scent! Made CP ..."
COMMENTS:  Love this scent! Made CP soap about 2 weeks ago and it smells so good! Behaved perfectly. No acceleration or ricing and it has not discolored at all. Did a blue base and bright, tropical accent colors for the swirl. Scent is still just as strong as the day I made the soap. Definitely has a fresh, tropical vibe. Not all that floral. More of a fresh scent and a little sweet and fruity. Very well blended FO Advantages: Excellent in CP No discoloration Scent sticks and stays true Disadvantages: none
